Ms. Lisa Otte - Elementary Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians:

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Elementary School.  I am privileged to lead a school with such a rich tradition of education.  I have been in education for 18 years and am licensed as a K-12 Principal and Director of Special Education.  In addition, I have a master’s degree in social work.  Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of age ranges from Pre-school through High School, including Alternative Learning Centers.  I have served in leadership for the past 5 years.  My most recent administrative experience was in the Alexandria Area High School where I served as the Dean of Students for grades 9-12 and Educational Leader for the Freshman Academy.  Prior to that, I served as the Assistant Director of a K-8 charter school in St. Cloud.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, walking, biking, going to the lake, reading, traveling, and sporting events.  I enjoy learning and view myself as a life-long learner.

My educational philosophy is that students should be at the center of school related decision making.  As educators we need to ensure equal opportunities for all students and work to close the achievement gap.  There needs to be high and clear expectations along with high standards.  Having a system of accountability in place for everyone including students, parents, staff and administration is essential in assisting students to reach their fullest potential.

I am excited to begin working with your children, and I look forward to the work we will do together. The African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  I am excited to see your children and share with you the great things that they will do throughout the year.   Working together we can accomplish many great things.  I encourage you to get involved in whatever way possible, the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is one great way!

Along with teachers and staff, I will work to build strong relationships with parents, students and community partners.  At BLHS Elementary we will continue to focus on Character Education initiatives, use data to drive instruction, and provide consistent implementation of curriculum that will ensure academic success for all students.

My door is always open, and I welcome your input.  Please feel free to call me should you have any concerns throughout the year.  I am excited and eager to bring my leadership skills to BLHS Elementary and work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success!  I look forward to a great school year!

Best Regards,

Ms. Lisa Otte
