FAQS-frequently asked questions part two:

The Learning Center will have the following age groups: Infant 6 weeks - 11 months, Transition Room 12 months -16 months, Toddler 14 months - 33 months and Preschool I - 33 months - 3.5 years and Preschool II 3.5 - 5 years. The age ranges will be adjusted based on the ages of the children that enroll.

Our curriculum and daily interactions with all the age groups will put children on the path to learning from their first day of care.

How do we help infants learn? Talking and providing physical, verbal and emotional responses to their actions are one way.  Other ways are by providing stimulation for their senses, playing games with them, reading to them, singing songs with and to them, and choosing toys that allow them to interact and explore for their age and emerging skills.

What is the Transition Room? The Transition Room is geared towards older, mobile infants.  In this room staff will be able to focus on the older infant’s developmental needs -- transitioning toward being a toddler. Examples include eating table food, showing more interest in books, sensory activities with creative art process, sleeping on a cot, and more outside time. So much learning in all these activities!

How will toddlers learn? Toddlers learn constantly by observing, listening, asking questions, trying new things and lastly by doing. The Teachers in this room will be busy keeping varied activities ready and modeling for the children how to play. Activities will include reading books one on one or in a small group, indoor and outdoor music and movement, exploring creative and sensory materials, and playing with toys that teach a variety of skills (shape sorting, colors, numbers, etc.).

How will preschoolers learn?  The foundation that has been laid in early years has taught Preschoolers “how to learn”. Strong preschool experiences help children realize “I can learn, or I am a good learner” Preschoolers are so fun to watch as the put together all the steps and realize what they can do! Teachers in their classroom will provide them with language and literacy lessons through stories, drawing, writing and time for conversations with their peers. Math skills such as numbers, shapes and measuring are learned through games, sensory play and discussion. Science skills are learned through observing and experimenting.  What happens when you do this? Will this sink or float? How come this happened? Curious minds want to know! Social skills take a huge part of a preschooler’s day. Lessons on sharing, taking turns, clean up and how to be a friend occur through interaction daily. We also hope to go out and be a part of the community by meeting those that help us and helping others!
